Betsy - Advocate

Spectrum Generations is pleased to recognize our good friend and colleague, Betsy Cantrell for her ongoing dedication and commitment to the people of Maine. She defines the word advocate, and is a true role-model for all of us who believe that one person really can make a difference.

Betsy’s vision and leadership are well-known to Mainers. Her concern for the safety and well-being of older Mainers has resulted in action on several fronts. For example, it was Betsy who was the driving force behind the creation and expansion of TRIADs in this state. She serves on the State Steering Committee of the Maine Association of Triads, Inc., and is an active member of the Merrymeeting Bay Triad.

Betsy recognized the need to address the issue of elder abuse, and as a result, was instrumental in the growth of Elder Abuse Task Forces throughout Maine. She serves on the State Elder Abuse Task Force Steering Committee and participates regularly in the Elder Abuse Task Force of Midcoast Maine.

No stranger to the Maine State House, Betsy is often seen advocating for issues important to the people of Maine with State Legislators. Whether it’s testifying to get more funding for Adult Protective Services, or educating policy makers on critical issues like elder financial abuse, Betsy identifies the facts, gets the information out and takes the necessary action.

As a Board member of the Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging, a member of the Advisory Board of the Maine Community Policing Institute and a Team Leader of the AARP Special Projects Group, Betsy provides an important voice state-wide on policy issues and services critical to the elderly in our state.

It’s no surprise that Betsy’s experience and counsel are in great demand. She serves on the Pejepscot Terrace Board (senior housing in Brunswick, Maine), is a member of the Mid-Coast Hospital Board of Directors and serves on the Sagadahoc County Board of Health. Her community involvement includes working with the Community Justice Project for Sagadahoc County, hosting a local cable TV show and participating in the Bath Garden Club.

Spectrum Generations thanks Betsy for her continued good work, and wishes her well for the future. Simply put, Betsy Cantrell is a tireless advocate whose efforts make life better for all of us. This recognition of her work is well-deserved. Congratulations Betsy!
